We compare companies offering juice detox plans delivered directly to you in Dubai. Here’s how these six did against each other
Whether your aim is to lose weight, feel refreshed and full of energy or you simply could do with feeling less bloated, a few days of juicing has many benefits. But when forking out hundreds of dirhams for the convenience of having it couriered to your home or place of work, you’ll want to know which plan suits you best. We tried out the following to help you make your decision.
Cafe Baroque What you get: Each juice (or soup for the final meal of the day) is delivered inside a cooler bag and an air tight flask to keep it fresh for as long as possible. They’re labelled with contents and a number to help you know which order to consume each in. As the flasks are obviously reused, they don’t appear as sleek as the plastic bottles in the other plans but this method is undoubtedly more environmentally friendly. We get four juices, one soup and a power shot of lemon and ginger – which also goes down a treat if you mix it into a cup of warm water. It’s also recommended you start the day with warm water and lemon, lemons provided. The results: We’re feeling energetic, our bloat is majorly reduced and our mind is clearer. The juices all taste good and as though they are fresh from the juicer. Pros: Café Baroque delivers each day so you know you’re getting the freshest stuff. Cons: The flasks might be inconvenient and heavy to carry around. Marks out of 5: 3.5 Dhs500 for three days. Dhs1000 for seven days (04 361 4252).
Detox and Diet (Medium cleanse)
What you get: This plan is in between the chlorophyll-heavy Deep cleanse but greener than the Gentle option you have a choice of ordering. Juices include the Red Deep Antioxidant (Apple, pineapple, berries, rock and avocado), others are the Deep Green Body Cleansing (Green Apple, Spinach, Kale, Lime, Celery, Parsley) and Active Green Digestive Sweeper (Agave, Spinach, Green Salad, Lime, Ginger, Alkaline Water). The Cocoa Protein Shake (Almond Milk, Coconut Water, Cocoa Nibs, Agave, Maca Powder, Hemp Powder) for the evening was just like drinking chocolate milk! Six bottles are provided for each day plus for Dhs79 you can buy an emergency snacks box containing macadamia nuts, prunes, dried apricots, seeds and a detox tea. So if you do fall off the wagon, it won’t be with a slice of cake. The results: We have trouble consuming an additional eight glasses of water as recommended because there’s already a large volume of liquid to get through, but we’re feeling lighter and less bloated. Pros: The programme comes with instructions to further enhance your cleanse. Tips include taking naps and warm baths when possible or climbing into bed early, plus light walks to get the lymphatic and circulatory system going. Additionally it recommends what to munch on if you MUST eat something to avoid completely falling off the wagon, as well as how to ease yourself back into a “normal” diet afterwards. Cons: The bottles are not labelled with ingredients, instead customers must check the website to know exactly what ingredients are in the juices. However, they do point out this is to reduce the cost of the package and be eco-friendly. Organic Press – Premium detox (For full alkalinity)
What you get: Raw, organic, gluten-free, cold-pressed juices that are unpasteurized, owners Chris and Daniel Vahanian provide 10 bottles per day which include three green, two citrus, two root, two smoothie, plus coconut and aloe vera water each. This company can do three to five day programmes and recommend that you start phasing out meat a few days before and opt for fish instead. Then starchy foods need to be eliminated two days prior and finally you should be down to a veggie heavy diet by the day before in order to prepare. To get through the lot in one day, it’s recommended drinks be consumed every two to three hours. As we tried the Xtreme programme, there was little to no fruit involved but the juices were still refreshing and tasty. Think beetroot, carrot, watermelon, lemon, ginger and lime in one or a mix of kale, spinach, lime, chlorella, celery, lemon, cucumber and lettuce. The results: Although not a weight-loss plan, we noticed we were three pounds lighter after three days on the plan. If you’re feeling a bit cold warm up with herbal teas, caffeine is off-limits while cleansing. These juices tasted great and kept us satisfied. We loved the taste of the Activated Charcoal, Purified Water, Lemon, Cayenne & Agave drink and especially appreciated how each bottle is labelled with nutritional value on the back so you know exactly how many calories etc are in the bottle. Pros: They are more than willing to cater to intolerances or dislikes, for example if you can’t have coconut water they’ll provide an additional aloe vera water, or remove spinach from their Green 2 juice, if you’d prefer it without. Cons: Delivery time is normally between 5.30pm and 6.30pm which is usually commute time for most, however you can state another preferred time. It’s very pricey however this plan provides the more beverages each day than any other plan we tested. Marks out of 5: 4 Dhs310 per day. Other plans for beginner, intermediate and experts are Dhs264 per day and contain six bottles per day. Organicpress.com. 800 JUICE (58423).
Go Organic ME
What you get: Cold pressed juices with 3lbs of veggies and low-GI fruit per bottle. Six juices are provided per day and brings you down to about 1,200 calories. you’ll recognise it from supermarkets such as Geant, LuLu, Choithrams and Al Maya where it has a shelf life of 37-55 days. However the juices delivered will not last longer than 48 hours so they have to drop off cooler bags filled with the produce every other day. The result: They have some tasty juices even children may like, such as the ‘After Party’ containing beetroot, carrot ginger, lemon and apple. Plus super green ones Braniac and Gravity. Ensalada was our least favourite and we found ourselves only taking a couple of sips before ditching it. Pros: As a result of being organic, their farms are pesticide and herbicide-free. The containers they use are PETE #1 plastic bottles which are recyclable, so we didn’t feel too bad going through 18 bottles. Cons: It was our least favourite packaging of the lot, which perhaps strangely made us less enthusiastic about trying our drinks, but it’s what’s on the inside that counts, right? Score out of 5: 3 Prices start at Dhs220 and the plan can be done for one, three, five, seven, 10 or 14 days. Delivery in Dubai is Dhs30 for one day and Dhs50 for two days’ worth. www.goorganic.me (04 813 5257). Detox Delight – Juice and Soup Delight
What you get: You get four drinks (one lemonade and three fruit and veg juices) each day with a soup for dinner to make cleansing easier. They do a great juice which tastes very tropical, containing pineapple, courgette, coconut water, lime, lemongrass and apple. The warm final meal is a refreshing approach to detoxing as one of the most popular reasons people are put off juicing is the lack of warm food. The vegan and gluten-free soup is pureed so fine that it’s not a shock to our digestive system. The results: While we found the heated soup alternative as great as the last meal of the day, it felt less filling than having two more juices which is offered on their regular plan. Pros: The company will customise ingredients if there’s anything you wouldn’t like on the plan. Getting to try a new fresh soup each day made entering the plan less daunting. Cons: Delivery time is normally commute time for most, however you can state another preferred time. Marks out of 5: 3.5 The plans can be done for three (Dhs1220), five (Dhs1950), seven (Dhs2650), 10 (Dhs3670), 12 (Dhs4300), 14 (Dhs4900), and 20 (Dhs6620) days. www.detox-delight.ae Delivery time is normally between 7am and 9am or 5pm and 8pm.
Essentially – Transformation cleanse
What you get: Founded by Wiebke Katsoudas, you may have spotted this one in Pret To Go. You get six drinks, including the new Deep Green juice contains organic black kale, plus you get a nutmilk each day. We requested to switch the nutmilk out and instead tried the Root Reboot, Beet Aid, Pineapple Powwow as our juice #5 each day. The first, third and last drinks of the day are green juices, additionally, there’s a black lemonade with activated charcoal. All of them have big benefits for a cleanse; turmeric and beetroot are great liver cleansers, while pineapple breaks down by-products of protein in your body. The results: While at first we feel our energy levels are down on the first day, after that our skin tone improves and so does our mood. Pros: The programme is thoroughly explained with them explaining things like the Black Lemonaid with activated charcoal should be consumed with two hours to go until the next meal in order to maximize results. For Dhs79 they sell a handy-sized cooler bag with icepack so you can carry the juices around with you and they’ll stay cool. Cons: With a few of the same green juices as part of the Transformation plan, it got quite boring drinking the same beverage after a while. Try the Revitalization plan for more variety. Rating out of 5: 4.5 One day (Dhs299), two days (Dhs897), five-day (Dhs1495), seven days (Dhs2093), and 10 days (Dhs2990). Shipping Dhs45. The delivery takes place 6pm to 9pm and you can note your preference for a time slot. www.essentially.ae (04 889 5753).
Wild and the Moon
What you get: You may have spotted these guys at Flywheel or Surfhouse Dubai. Five beverages are provided at 500ml each and two 250ml bottles of lemon, cayenne, ginger, maca, fresh mint and water are provided to sip throughout the day and encourage fat burning. The drinks include ‘The Tiger’ which is a mix of sweet potato, apple, orange, turmeric, cardamom and black pepper (full of vitamin c and carotenoids). There’s also the ‘Black Gold’ drink which contains spouted almonds, activated charcoal, dates, sea salt, vanilla bean and water. It’s a radical detoxifier and anti-inflammatory. Pamphlet instructions explain to “chew” your juices and following the plan to slowly add in veggies, fruit and sprouted grains for the next three days. The results: As the cold-pressed drinks are raw, gluten-free and fresh (they shouldn’t be consumed more than three days after receiving), it’s no surprise we feel light and signs of sluggishness have disappeared. Pros: The cleanse doesn’t feel too boring as it’s done on an A/B menu rotation which means you follow one set of juices one day, then hop to the next set the following day, and continue until the plan is done. Just in case you feel like giving up, the menu explains the benefits of each drink. Plus with names like ‘Burn It Up – Fat Killer’ and ‘Glow Gorgeous – Radiant Skin’ you’re bound to want to keep going. Cons: The ingredients might be unconventional for some but we saw that as a bonus.
