1 Metabolism The trick to reflexology is to use your thumb and index finger only while pressing for five seconds on each area. Each part of the foot has a direct correlation to a gland, organ and part of the nervous system. The bottom of the big toe helps the thyroid gland regulate the metabolism.
2 Stress relief When you’re feeling stressed, target the area under the ball of the foot – essentially the inside of your arch. This will ease the diaphragm, help you breathe better and release tension.
3 Bloating The large and small intestines are primarily in charge of digestion. Apply pressure to the area near the bottom of the foot and towards the centre of the sole to aid the process and prevent bloating.
4 Appetite and thirst The area outside the big toe is important for controlling the appetite and thirst, however, the foot has some 15,000 nerves, so if you’re unsure of what you’re doing, leave it to a professional reflexologist.
5 Hormonal balance If you’re experiencing mood swings or noticing an increase in the amount of spots appearing on your face, try applying pressure to the centre of your big toe. This is connected to the pituitary gland – otherwise known as the master gland – in charge of balancing the hormonal secretions of all the glands.
