The hills are alive at the second Hatta Hills Running Festival
While pounding away on a treadmill listening to your latest running tunes playlist might seem like fun, nothing beats a little cross-country action – especially when there’s a beautiful backdrop to be enjoyed.
The #IGNITEDXB Hatta Hills Running Festival is back for a second year and is set to offer a heady mix of on- and off-road racing for all ages and abilities, starting out from Hatta Fort Hotel on Friday March 10.
While the social 2.5km and 5km runs will see competitors take on a cross-country course through the hotel’s grounds, the biggest challenges will face those entering the 10km and 21km races. They’ll be faced with some steep gradients as they make their way up to the Hatta Dam and reservoir walls before negotiating the narrow paths of the Hajar Mountains and its wadis.
Such a challenge doesn’t come without its rewards, though, and along with medals, trophies and other prizes from sponsors including Puma, these hardy runners will get to enjoy some stunning vistas.
Warren van der Merwe, director of race organisers Super Sports, tells Time Out: “The event is a unique race to the UAE, with its spectacular scenery and a challenging half marathon route, as well as shorter distances winding through the hilly Hatta Fort Hotel grounds. This is a race for everyone and we look forward to it being bigger and better this year.”
The festival is now officially part of Puma’s “IGNITE Your City” series taking place across the world. So it’s time to ditch that treadmill. (You can bring the playlist if you like, though.) From Dhs100. Fri Mar 10, 7am. Hatta Fort Hotel, www.supersportsuae.com.
