If you don't want to do anything else this weekend kick back here
A drink at The Academy Head over to this restaurant and bar to watch other people do the not-so-heavy lifting on the driving range at the Montgomerie golf club. Pull up a chair on the veranda outside and enjoy an ice cold drink and a hearty lunch while the (slightly) more energetic row of golfers tee off. Open daily 11am-11.30pm. Montgomerie Golf Club, Emirates Hills (04 390 5600).
A bite to eat at Istanbul Flower It may not be right at the heart of the city, but inside this little oasis of a restaurant the Turkish fare is superb, the chairs are comfortable and the staff are more than happy for you to while away a few hours with the day’s newspaper over a plate of iskander or salad. Open daily noon-1am. Safestway building, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 343 4585).
Take advantage of a spa offer Head out into the desert – that’s right, away from the city – to the Bab Al Shams Resort & Spa to take advantage of the Satori Spa’s special offer from Thursday March 24- Saturday March 26, where you’ll be able to buy an 80-minute body reviver massage for just Dhs750, and get a complimentary 20-minute Indian head massage or reflexology session. Open daily 8am-8pm. Satori Day Spa, Bab Al Shams Desert Resort and Spa (04 809 6232).
Take a tour on an abra There are plenty of abra drivers looking for business on the Bur Dubai side of the creek (next to the textile souk), and most are willing to take passengers on an hour-long trip for around Dhs30 – though depending on the size of the group, they may haggle for a bit more. Catch the sunset – and don’t miss the creekside palaces.
Sample shisha and sweets at Lounge W Choose from a range of fruity shisha flavours for Dhs45 each at this curious but cosy Arabic spot in Al Barsha, or opt for a sweet treat in the form of Um Ali with a scoop of ice cream, a steal at Dhs18. Open daily noon-1am. Near Ibis Hotel Al Barsha, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 399 0882).
