Dubai residents rallied in the wake of the fire at Address Downtown on New Year's Eve, sparking a social media campaign to help house those affected by the blaze.
The hashtag #NeedAnAddress was kicked off around 10pm as the terrifying incident in Downtown made headlines around the world. By midnight, it was appearing on Twitter in its thousands as people rushed to offer their spare bedrooms, sofas, showers and more.
Thankfully early reports from Downtown were that no-one was seriously injured in the incident, which engulfed almost one entire side of the luxury complex next to Dubai Mall, Burj Khalifa and Souk Al Bahar. Later it was revealed that 14 people had been treated for minor issues.
However, regardless of physical injuries, there are many displaced and separated from their belongings due to the ferocity of the blaze. The hotel and surrounding area was completely evacuated and will likely stay off limits for some time.
And that is where #NeedAnAddress comes in. Started by Twitter user @DanielMarcEvans it allowed people to offer whatever they could and in turn have individuals find somewhere convenient to stay.
Just see below at how quickly the campaign developed. And, of course, feel free to offer your help if you can.
Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing also confirmed they would helping provide evacuated guest with alternative hotel accommodation.
