The Green Planet indoor ecosystem to open in Dubai
Time Out Dubai has information on The Green Planet, a new tourist attraction in Dubai at CityWalk, housing a giant indoor ecosystem and 3,000 plants and animals
The first details of what is to be expected at the CityWalk expansion have been revealed... and they're brilliant.
In official information released on Monday, it was confirmed that a new giant Bio-Dome will form part of the huge new development; it will be known as The Green Planet, and is unlike anything previously seen in the UAE.
Featuring some 3,000 plants and animals, the new facility 'recreates the enchanting world of a tropical forest with its rich biodiversity'. The centrepiece will be the largest indoor man-made and life-sustaining tree, which will be 25-metres in height.
Hailed as both an educational and recreational attraction, the enclosed ecosystem will open in this half of 2016.
According to information from Meraas, 'a majestic green canopy will cover the lush tropical vegetation, recreating the natural habitat of an abundance of species and giving visitors striking glimpses into the beauty of another world'.
And the project has already received international acclaim, following the award of the global LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certificate. As a result, it looks certain to become a leading attraction in the Middle East.
In a fun infographic released as part of the announcement, key areas of the new facility were revealed to be a butterfly balcony, flooded forest tunnel, treehouse and waterfall pool.
Further details of what is to be found at the new CityWalk development are being kept under wraps, although the keen-eyed will already have noticed a number of high-end retails outlets already putting signage up at the area close to Downtown Dubai.
Originally slated to open late in 2015, doors are expected to swing open before the end of February.
