Time Out announces a Warner Bros World theme park to open on Yas Island Abu Dhabi in 2018. Find out more here
Warner Bros World theme park will open at Yas Island in 2018.
The stunning announcement was made today a glittering press conference in the capital, in which some early details of the project were officially unveiled. A video played to the press was the biggest giveaway, with films such as Batman vs Superman, Inception and other DC Comics featuring heavily, as well as Friends and Looney Tunes.
It was also revealed that around 30 percent of the on-the-ground construction has been completed, while all designs and rides have been approved. A opening date of 2018 was also confirmed.
The news is yet another stunning leap forward for the UAE, which this year will open two other major theme parks in Dubai, the IMG World Of Adventure and Dubai Parks And Resorts which itself houses six 'worlds', including LEGOLAND, motiongate Dubai (a collaboration between Lionsgate, Dreamworks and Sony Pictures) and Bollywood Land. And in November, another iconic movie brand, 20th Century Fox, revealed their plans for a similar project in the region.
Today, though, it is all about Warner Bros, a century-old Hollywood powerhouse founded by Harry, Albert, Sam and Jack Warner in 1918. Nowadays it boasts on-going relationships with some of the industry's finest directors - Christopher Nolan, Clint Eastwood, David Yates, Ben Affleck, Zack Snyder - and most memorable movies, such as Interstellar, Harry Potter, Argo, The Matrix and The Hobbit. They also own the rights to the DC Comics universe, which includes Batman, Superman and Suicide Squad.
The park is not the first venture by the studio, who already have their name attached to Movie World in Queensland Australia, a 25-year-old park featuring themed rides based on Batman, Austin Powers, Marilyn Monroe, Great Gatsby, Scooby-Doo and various Looney Tunes characters. It is also regularly held parties for the brand and been used for location filming for blockbuster films.
Warner Bros also previously had venues in Germany (at the now named Movie Park Germany) and Spain (now Parque Warner Madrid), while their stamp is also on the Wizarding World Of Harry Potter in Orlando, and the Harry Potter Studios in London.
