Expect extreme sports, breakdancing, graffiti and beats
You’ll be forgiven for thinking you’re in that super-cool RunDMC video from the ’90s if you head down to The Beach, opposite JBR, between Thursday March 30 and Saturday April 1.
That’s because Urban Beats is back for its third year, promising “mind-blowing” stunts, breakdancing, slacklining (that trendy version of tight rope walking), as well as BMXing, skateboarding, funky music, graffiti and all that cool kid stuff.
The high-octane street event reckons this year’s performances will simultaneously defy both gravity and, therefore, death. You can also see some pretty epic breakdancing throw downs in dance-off competition The Outbreak – with the winner going through to the world finals in Europe later this year. If you want to get involved yourself, you can register to compete on the Urban Beats on the Beach Facebook page.
Otherwise, expect to see a lot of skateboarders, BMX-riders and inline skating accompanied by hip hop or anxiety-fuelled teenage American pop rock. If you ever played Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater, this will pretty much be the real life version of that, which sounds pretty good to us. Free. Thu March 30, 6pm-10pm, Fri March 31-Sat April 1, 4pm-8pm.
