Huge new beach district opening in Dubai on October 15
Meraas’ La Mer to bring 130 cafés, licensed restaurants, hotels and a water park to Jumeirah
Meraas has announced the opening date of its seventh destination in Dubai, with the master developer ready to reveal La Mer.
La Mer was announced last year at Cityscape, where we covered all the details of the new coastal hub coming to Jumeirah 1 between Jumeirah Mosque and Dubai Zoo. The huge beachfront development will open its first phase to the public from Sunday October 15. Stretching out into the ocean, Meraas promises uninterrupted views of the Arabian Gulf and city skyline.
So far, it sounds great. But what can residents expect from the development?
Well, coming in at a whopping 13.4 million sq ft of existing land and land reclaimed from the sea, La Mer will span across three different districts – La Mer South, La Mer North and The Wharf. La Mer South and North is going to be featuring a lot, a lot, of shops, restaurants, cafés and beach activities – 130 no less – and its these two parts of the site that are opening on Sunday October 15.
In terms of restaurants, Meraas has said that “several food and beverage concepts will make their first appearance in the region, including a number of distinguished licensed restaurants.”
The Sea Spice beach club is also due to open soon, with more information due to follow, and, excitingly a Hawa Hawa trampoline park (an air-filled trampoline concept from Japan) is also due to open at La Mer too.
La Mer North and South areas are opening now, with the second phase of the project, The Wharf, due to open at the start of 2018. That will feature cinemas, a waterpark including a dedicated, first-of-its-kind in the region surf park, plus more shops cafés and restaurants. Latterly, at a point yet to be confirmed, there will also be a hotel and residential community located on two man-made peninsulas.
“It has already proven a popular location for some of the world’s top brands, and will strengthen Dubai’s position as a global shopping and tourist city,” said His Excellency Abdulla Al Habbai, Group Chairman at Meraas. “With a host of new and novel experiences, residents and visitors will also find an alluring proposition to explore and enjoy.”
With the huge development opening in the coming days, and with a wealth of new attractions and leisure destinations due to follow, we can’t wait to get inside and explore every part of this enormous new destination.
The announcement comes hot off the heels of Meraas' recent opening of the stunning Al Seef development at Dubai Creek, a 1.8-km-long tourism destination featuring 500 shopping and dining outlets. Read all about it here.
