Points for safe driving can be cashed in for spending money with retailers
In a bid to make Dubai’s roads safer, Dubai Police has announced an initiative that will reward good drivers with something equivalent to loyalty points.
According to Gulf News, the police force will use the Dubai Police app to create an interactive way of driving, which will see safe drivers rewarded. Good drivers, sticking to the speed limit, will accrue “white points” that can eventually be cashed in and redeemed for shopping vouchers or other purchases.
“Speeding is a serious offence in Dubai, which causes death and injuries every year,” said Brigadier Saif Muhair Al Mazroui, director of Dubai Police’s Traffic Department. “With this programme, we hope to motivate drivers to follow speed limits.”
Every five or ten kilometres, cars registered in Dubai will begin earning points, which will also rank the city’s safest drivers, and show the ranking of Dubai drivers on an ongoing basis. You will also be able to create teams and compete with others to see who earns the most points.
While it hasn’t yet been disclosed which outlets will be participating in the points redemption offer, the initiative certainly has the potential to increase the safety of Dubai’s roads, and should become an attractive proposition to Dubai’s drivers and many of the city’s retailers.
“It is a unique idea and is part of Dubai Police’s strategy to have safer roads and reduce casualties. Drivers will earn white points by registering in the programme,” Al Mazroui said.
Keep an eye out for the feature in the Dubai Police app soon.
