This theatre holds around 450 people but, if it were in the UK, would be kitted out to seat 600 at least. The seats are supremely comfortable and of good size and there is such sufficient legroom that you don’t need to move to let people in and out. The adequate rake of the rows of seating combined with the generosity of the seating itself allows unobstructed viewing for all.
We went to the opening concert of “Score 2013”, a new series of classical chamber concerts (the stage is hardly big enough for more than a chamber ensemble). Not being sniffy but, the audience was on the naïve side for serious music; no doubt a reflection of the cultural norms in Dubai. Although there was a request for people to turn off their mobile phones, it didn’t stop quite a few playing on their iPads throughout the performance. This was extremely distracting and very ill-mannered and something the theatre should seek to stamp out quickly.
