Empty Quarter Fine Art Photography Gallery is presenting for the first time “Dubai, Transmutations”, an exhibition by photographer Martin Becka.“Dubai, Transmutations”, capturing the city using the 19th Century techniques in photographs, is open from October 18, 2009 to November 17, 2009, seven days a week. Admission is free.
Exhibition opening hours: Sunday through Saturday 9am-10pm, Friday 3pm -10pm. The city of Dubai has been photographed using the same techniques used 170 years ago, a medium that was so resolutely grounded in the particulars of the ’there and then’; literally what was in front of the lens when the shutter clicked, showing that photography can, in the hands of a master, remain eternally in the present, as shown in Martin Becka’s exhibition at The Empty Quarter.
To support this innovative exhibition, The Empty Quarter will be bringing the original camera dating from 1857 to accompany the exhibition, including a darkroom set up from that period external to the gallery for viewing.
Also launching, as part of this exhibition is an accompanying 40-page book, “Dubai, Transmutations”: capturing Martin Becka’s Dubai using 19th Century techniques. Martin will be personally signing copies of the book throughout the opening night of the exhibition.
The Empty Quarter Fine Art Photography Gallery is located in DIFC The Gate Village Building 02. It is open Saturday through Thursdays from 9 am to 10 p.m. and Friday from 3pm to 10 p.m.
