Artist, Rania Naccour, on exaggerating expressions
Time Out Abu Dhabi staff
Why did you become a caricaturist? I’ve always been intrigued by the uniqueness of the face. I studied fine arts and was determined to prove that I could follow my passion and still be successful. So I taught art and did live caricatures and portraits in fairs. Opportunities to draw at events in Lebanon, Kuwait and the UAE started pouring in, which encouraged me to continue doing what I love while based here in the UAE.
What reaction did you get? My caricatures are an exaggeration of beauty, so almost all reactions were positive, as I managed to capture the natural beauty of my guests.
Who are the toughest people for you to caricature? My family and close friends. It’s hard not to see those familiar faces with my heart’s eyes and render my perception towards them, which is deeper than any line I can draw.
Why do you love your job? It takes me to places with new faces to explore.
