Unlike anything to have appeared in the Middle East before, La Perle is the brainchild of one the most recognisable names in live entertainment of this kind, Franco Dragone, a founding father of the iconic Cirque du Soleil brand.
His latest creation will run 450 shows a year in Dubai from the 1,300-seat theatre, which has been custom designed to house an ‘aqua stage’. Water is the running theme, with 65 performers and 70 specialist technicians producing a show using 2.7 million litres of water, hydraulic lifts, fountains and high-powered winches.
Theatre-goers will see the stars dive from 35 metres, swing at speeds of four metres per second and generally wow the crowd with some of the most advanced circus-style stunts in the world.
“La Perle will be the most awe-inspiring and technically advanced theatre production I have ever produced and directed,” Dragone said in a statement. It is inspired by the spirit of Dubai and will reflect the beauty and flavours of Arabia.”
Dragone latest works have earned rave reviews and countless awards across the world. His most recent include Celine Dion - A New Day, and Le Rêve in Las Vegas (65 per cent of the 41 million visitors to the city bought tickets), as well as The House of Dancing Water in Macau.
The announcement comes a week after Al Habtoor City revealed the first details of some of the exciting food and beverage outlets coming to the canal-side destination.
Already home to the St Regis - with the W and Westin to follow – the development announced international brands Blind Dragon and ZOCO would come to Dubai for the very first time, while The Rose & Crown, a traditional British pub, will launch on site.
The openings are part of The Atrium, a five-storey complex housing seven restaurants and the La Perle residency.
