Time Out Dubai has a guide to the Best bars in Dubai for drinks before dinner (aperitif), including bars in Downtown, Dubai Marina, Sheikh Zayed Road
Whether you’re sipping bubbly at Mercury Lounge in Jumeirah or ice cold hops at Estrellas Skyline Lounge in Bur Dubai, the city is full of great bars that are perfect for a pit stop pre-dinner. Here are ten of our favourites.
Best before: Signature by Sanjeev Kapoor, Meliá Dubai. On the roof of Meliá Dubai you’ll find this stylish outdoor bar with good lounge music and a vibe that is super-cool. For those who can’t wait for dinner, Estrellas’ bar food menu offers a selection of tasty mezze ideal for sharing.
Best before: Marina Social, InterContinental Dubai Marina. Ginter is a must-visit for those who like drinks with flair. Whether you’re after a spiced juniper mixed drink on ice or one infused with herbs, the mixologists here make every beverage you order an experience to be savoured.
Best before: The Act Dubai, Shangri-La Hotel. This bar is perfect for business or just hanging with your mates. Be sure to nab a seat on one of the comfy sofas on the terrace if you’re relaxing, but behind the bar is where all the action is, so sit inside so you don’t want to miss it. There are plenty of mixed drinks to choose from – the grape and bubbly menu makes a visit well worth it – or ask the barman to shake you something special.
Best before: Coya, Four Seasons Resort Dubai at Jumeirah Beach. Drinks at Mercury Lounge is something of an occasion – the kind of place you’d order a caviar-infused, bubbly blend to sip. For something more casual and classic, retire to the nearby Hendrick’s Bar for drinks served by a man with a trolley – it doesn’t get more old-school than that.
Best before: Shanghai Chic or Sicilia Mövenpick Hotel Ibn Battuta Gate Dubai. Drinks are really affordable here – a mixed concoction will cost you Dhs40, which is good going for the city. Sit out on the terrace while the weather’s cool.
Best before: Any restaurant at Souk Al Bahar. This new quirky, luxury cabaret lounge hosts a live band every Tuesday, Thursday and Friday. It also puts on a jazz and soul night every Wednesday. The ambiance is cosy and tables are well spaced to give customers a sense of space and privacy.
Best before: Social by Heinz Beck, Waldorf Astoria Dubai Palm Jumeirah. If you don’t fancy the hassle of heading to one of Dubai’s busier nightspots, The Beach House at Anantara on the Palm Jumeirah offers the perfect escape. Grab a sofa on the outdoor terrace, which opens up onto the beachfront and some seriously cool views.
Best before: Tesoro, Taj Dubai. Looking for a rooftop spot? Head over to Treehouse at Taj Dubai. The new bar offers a spacious, open-plan terrace packed with personality. There’s a fireplace filled with candles, a mirrored bar and, of course, trees in every corner.
