Swap your diamonds for your denims and prepare for a riotous ride at this new haunt behind Sheikh Zayed Road.
Sitting on the second floor of the building that also houses The Stables sports pub, near Irish institution Fibber Magee’s, Rodeo Drive bucks (quite literally) the trend for swank in favour of cowboy swagger. Barely more than a few weeks old on Dubai’s nightlife scene, this American gastropub and bar is already gaining fans for its emphasis on fun and entertainment – specifically of the raucous frat-party variety.
Sitting centre stage, slap bang in the middle of the room, is a bucking bronco (free to every punter, all you need to do is sign a waiver), while there are entirely separate levels of the room dedicated to every college kid’s favourite sport – think ping-pong balls and plastic cups of hops. Such a part of this bar’s offering is the game that there’s even an open tournament.
In that same Americana-fraternity vein, the drinks menu features an impressive range of short drinks and great deals almost every night of the week. But while the bargains may be daily, this place only really gets going towards the tail end of the week.
On quieter nights (of which there are few, thanks to live rock, jazz and salsa bands throughout the week) you’ll find the bar staff enjoying the entertainment on offer – competing ferociously on the foosball table and polishing their skills at the electronic darts board (there’s also an arcade golf game, jukebox and live sports on TV). As such, placing an order can be mildly challenging, but at least the drinks arrive quickly (and with a free bucket of pretzels, no less). While there’s a decent range of hops to choose from, there are only one or two types of grape – naturally, this place doesn’t cater to drinks snobs, or any kind of snob, for that matter.
Even the ‘inspirational’ quotes (including a few wise words from one Homer Simpson)that litter the walls between a collage of sporting paraphernalia are almost all to do with letting your hair down, drink firmly in hand.
While you certainly won’t catch the Cavalli crowd in here, Rodeo makes no pretences. The vibe is rowdy American bar, with lashings of well-intentioned fun. Whether you need a group night out with built-in ice-breakers, or simply somewhere to trade loud insults with your nearest and dearest, look no further than here.
