Dubai has an abundance of rooftop bars dotted across the city, but the latest addition, Estrellas Skyline Lounge at Bur Dubai’s Meliã Dubai, offers uninterrupted views of Sheikh Zayed Road’s striking silhouette and the record-breaking Burj Khalifa.
Having only recently opened, it’s still relatively unknown, but it can only be a matter of time before Estrellas starts buzzing.
Though open from noon, Dubai’s only Spanish hotel’s new al fresco haunt really comes into its own when the sun goes down and the city’s lights go up. At the heart of the space is a huge swimming pool, lined by tables and comfy beanbags, though the glittering Dubai backdrop is the real star of the lounge’s aesthetic. On our arrival, we were greeted by two well-groomed ladies who showed us to a table of our choice, close to the edge of the relatively quiet venue. Before long, however, the manager appeared to invite us to sit at one of the larger tables with comfy sofas on the upper deck, to enjoy a better view. And he wasn’t just talking about the city lights – for on taking his advice, we found ourselves walking across one of the venue’s most remarkable details. A glass floor beneath our feet revealed a plunging, dizzying drop right down to the hotel’s reception. While admittedly rather daunting to tip-toe across, it’s another thing that sets this impressive and unassuming new Bur Dubai nightspot apart.
Service continued to impress after we’d placed our order from the extensive menu of drinks, and we were even offered the opportunity to sample a couple of dishes. Staff seemed almost as determined as we were that we have a good time – it shouldn’t have been so unusual, but this is an area in which many new bar openings in Dubai have failed miserably. It may be barely a month old, but Estrellas is already serving up memorable nights out. Excellent service, impressive drinks and a stunning view make for a pretty decent evening on the town. And if that doesn’t take your breath away, perhaps the glass flooring will.
