Dubai’s sports bars are typically thick with smoke and the lively din of supporters. Not so at Jimmy Wickets.
Perhaps because it’s a little hidden on the mezzanine floor of the Warwick Hotel, not far from popular sports haunt McGettigan’s DWTC. Or maybe it’s because you can’t smoke here and have to head downstairs, outside of the hotel, that puts people off visiting. Whatever it is, at 7pm on a Friday evening, we’re the only people in the bar. And owing to the rather surprised look on our barman’s face when we walk in, we get the feeling we’re the only guests in quite some time.
But we shouldn’t be. The bar is kitted out as good as any, with TVs showing the various games of the day, memorabilia decorating the walls, comfy sofas, high stools and an overall masculinity permeating the place.
Happy hour from 5pm-8pm offers house drinks for Dhs20 each and there’s a menu of bar food to see you through the game – the cheeseburger (with brie) is a must.
If you want to catch a match quietly with your other half, this is the place to do it. But if you want atmosphere, that pub up the road might be a safer bet.
The bottom line
Great drinks deals, but little atmosphere.
