Tucked away behind the “bookshelf” in the Dusit Thani’s lobby is this dark and atmospheric bar. When it first opened, Nippon Bottle Co. was mooted as some kind of speakeasy that was only accessible by being a member with a secret code. Now, it has a giant sign outside the hotel in full view of the Sheikh Zayed Road. Nonetheless, it is still a good place to spend some time. Its low-level lighting creates a decent vibe and the selection of Japanese shorts is one of the most extensive and reasonably priced in the city. There are good mixed beverages, too, but we can’t help feel that there’s something lacking. The music policy seems to vary wildly and the addition of big screens showing news has lost the bar a little class. If they can decide what they want the entertainment to be, this could be very good indeed.
