For golfers, the post-round ritual is a tradition that must be adhered to. Upon sinking that final putt of the day, the glove comes off, hands get shaken, bags dropped off, showers taken and a bee-line is made for the clubhouse bar.
Spike Bar at Emirates Golf Club was recently nudged upstairs thanks to the arrival of jones the grocer. In truth, it’s the best thing that could have happened to it. The new interior is slick and modern with the classic touches and furnishings you’d expect from a dedicated golf bar.
Think 16 screens showing the latest tourney from the world of golf, various pieces of sporting paraphernalia, and a sprawling terrace that’s simply marvellous for some post-round refreshment.
We arrive, fittingly, following a round on the Faldo, welcomed off our weary feet by low-slung seating and a view out over the practice green. Because nothing consoles a disappointing scorecard better than judging other golfers miss a three-footer.

Beverages aren’t extortionately priced, which comes as something of a relief, and there’s a daily happy hour with reasonable discounts on selected beverages.
What stands out, for us, is that compared to many golf club bars in the city, this place feels like the boat has been well and truly pushed out. The bottom line Golfer or nay, this is a lovely little spot.
