Tucked away in Palm Jumeirah’s Palm Views East, around a corner and through two sets of double doors, this bar is unassuming (almost invisible) from the outside. But once those doors swing open, the “urban sports bistro” is filled with chatter and the commentary from whatever football match is being screened. At almost any time you’ll find Barrel 12 filled with families, friends and couples enjoying the sport, food and drinks. It’s one of the few standalone venues on the Palm and, as such, has a ready-made clientele in the island’s residents. The decor is minimal and industrial and it’s a casual place to spend a few hours watching a game or two. Staff are down-to-earth, chatty and happy to make recommendations, and there’s a good selection of hops on offer, a short-but-sweet grape list and a concise, well thought-out choice of mixed beverages. Prices are reasonable and there’s a regular happy hour and other deals, too.
