It’s hard not to notice that Spirito never seems to draw quite the same crowds as its neighbours inside Dubai’s Media One hotel.
Across the corridor, the regular Thursday night pouring in of punters to the rustically themed and typically lively Crab Tavern only serves to highlight the fact that this Latin bar and restaurant hasn’t quite struck the right note with Media City’s regulars. And with a revamped DEK on 8 now open and a brand-new bar in the space formerly occupied by Z:One coming soon, it doesn’t feel like the venue’s luck is set to change any time soon.
While the low-lit bar’s service is keen, prices are nowhere near so – mixed drinks are the speciality, but for Dhs60, you’d expect the views and setting of a venue far more impressive. Glasses of grape (upwards of Dhs55) and bottles of hops (upwards of Dhs40) fare little better when compared with some Media City’s other (albeit slightly less polished) bars and pubs.
If you work in the area, stick to your usual haunts. If you don’t, there’s no need to take a detour. The Bottom Line Pricey drinks and a smart setting that hasn’t found the right key.
