Inspired by the King Cole Bar at The St. Regis in New York, there’s a definite gentlemen’s club vibe about this place, with the plush armchairs, dark wood and dim lighting. At the back of the bar there’s even a cigar room to retreat to. There’s a striking mural behind the marble-topped bar, with a row of high-back, black leather chairs lined up in front.
Views of the metro line and Sheikh Zayed Road jar with the setting, though, and bring you back from New York to Dubai.
Drinks are also influenced by the Big Apple, with plenty of inventive mixed beverages that are served stylishly. Malt-based drinks also take up a large section of the menu, including some eye-wateringly expensive bottles for thousands of dirhams. But away from these bank breakers you’ll find prices are on a par with similar hotel bars. There are some high-end bites to accompany the drinks, too, featuring ingredients such as wagyu beef and foie gras.
Service is as slick as you would expect from such a stylish brand. The staff blend into the background, but are always on hand when needed.
This isn’t the sort of place you’re going to visit for a lively celebration, but for a relaxed pre- or post-dinner drink, it’s perfect.
The bottom line A stylish bar for an understated night out.
