F rom urban oasis to desert retreat, the new Purobeach UAE is as far removed from the manicured rooftop of the original Dubai location – on top of the Conrad Dubai car park – as it gets. But the essence of both locations remains the same.
This is not a place for big-name DJs or thumping bass. Describing itself as an “oasis of happiness”, you come to Purobeach to get away from it all.
Just 20 minutes – and a world away – from Dubai Marina, it opened at the turn of the year and has already become a beautiful place for beautiful people. High heels appear mandatory footwear for the ladies, while chaps chill in shirts when they’re not in and out of the central pool – the signature installation of the whole complex, made with black Balinese lava stone.
An outdoor bar (with three more in the offing) stands as a link between the central hub of the pool and beachside. On the sand – a totally private beach, completely detached from the other nearby resorts – there is a please-all mentality, with little fuss; they know privacy is key, and have kept it just so. For those who want a little something special, VIPs can soon punt for their own private lounge with Jacuzzi in front of the pool.
On the dining front, Purobeach has made a real song and dance about its M3 Cuisine. It seems to be a push to deliver something fresh for every taste – though quite what Melbourne cuisine is, or even Miami, is anyone’s guess. The third M – Marrakech – at least stands for something.
The party element is most prevalent on Saturdays, when the beats are cranked up a notch to accompany a Dhs300 brunch, but with a midnight curfew (with the exception of “special events”) it’s a safe place to party if sparklers in big bottles aren’t your thing.
