For a long time, it was only the shining lights of the Bonnington that signalled a place to get a cold pint in Jumeirah Lakes Towers. The opening of the Mövenpick prompted a flurry of excitement a couple of years later and, last January, along came the Pullman. But few outlets within those hotels have had quite the reception and overwhelmingly positive feedback of Nola, the New Orleans-inspired bar and restaurant now doing a roaring trade at the base of the Armada BlueBay Hotel.
A long, marble-topped bar is the retro-urban-chic room’s centrepiece, with narrow teal booths against the wall behind and dining tables positioned in front, leading out towards the venue’s small patio.
Service can border on the maddeningly slow if you opt for a table, but perch at the bar and you should weather fewer fraught exchanges in getting your hands on a drink. Most evenings, but particularly towards the tail end of the week, you’ll find Nola heaving with punters, some drawn by the crowds, others by the daily deals on drinks from 5pm to 8pm, with 50 percent off selected grape, hops and shorts. With certain drinks setting you back less than Dhs20, this extended happy hour’s among the best deals in the neighbourhood.
JLTites have waited a long time for this. Good thing they know how to make the most of it.
The bottom line A rocking crowd on weekends and nightly drinks deals.
