You might have read our recent review of new high-end eatery Play, the restaurant helmed by former Zuma chef Reif Othman. In it, we didn’t really touch on the bar element of the venue, which is very much a reason to visit in its own right.
While the restaurant is a huge space, with high ceilings and raised dining areas, the lounge, although still roomy, is more intimate. There are seats around the bar, and high tables lining the wall next to the entrance, which start filling up at about 9pm.
It’s certainly a place for the glamorous people of Dubai to gather, and in less than two months has already drawn a sizeable crowd.
There’s also a circular bar, with oversized, old-school Hollywood-style spotlights nearby. We’re told they relate to a photography studio hidden away behind the scenes for a lucky group to have their pictures taken each night. We clearly weren’t the types they wanted for that, but that’s okay by us – expertly mixed drinks, at very reasonable prices were more than acceptable substitutes for our own fashion shoot.
The bottom line An upmarket venue that will attract the well-heeled, but with reasonable prices to boot.
