Dubai isn’t short of opulent venues, but The St. Regis is right up there with the most lavish of them.
The hotel, which opened late last year, is modelled on the famous one in New York and is as decadent as the original. You’re faced with an enormous chandelier as you walk in. Make your way up the grand marble staircase and it’s almost like you’re in a film.
Champagne Lounge looks regal, with cream walls, brocade curtains and dark banquettes, while a row of neat cream stools sit in front of the bar.
It’s fairly bright, but this fits the tone of the venue – there are no dark corners or moody vibes here. It’s pretty relaxed, though. The concise, but interesting mixed drinks menu is, as expected, pretty pricey.
On our visit, there was a buzz about the place, thanks to a large party also in the bar. The atmosphere would have suffered without them, though.
Since the bar is so new, we haven’t really seen it get busy yet, so for now, this doesn’t feel like one to get the party started in. But for a quiet sophisticated drink before dinner, you won’t be disappointed.
The bottom line A plush venue for a pre-dinner drink if elegant and quiet are what you prefer.
