This cavernous bar at the Amwaj Rotana has added something new to the nightlife offerings in JBR, and judging by the crowds gathered inside and out, it’s already making an impression.
The first thing we notice is the entrance. You access JB’s not through the hotel lobby, but from The Walk itself. Before you enter, there is a terrace, sheltered from the passing crowds, but still very much on the popular drinks strip.
Inside, the décor is industrial-style (concrete floors, filament light bulbs, metal cages above the bars), which isn’t too different from a lot of newer bars in the city. It’s much bigger than most, with a spacious bar area and high tables, plus a more loungey section, which feels like the natural place to eat.
When it comes to food, the menu is a mix of classic pub grub (think fish and chips) to more adventurous bites such as duck hot dogs and smoked brisket. The drinks selection is also wider than a lot of other places we’ve been to recently. And it’s busy, which makes for a good atmosphere.
For a laid-back, unpretentious place to catch up with your loudest friends, JB’s ticks all the boxes.
The bottom line A fun atmosphere awaits at this modern gastropub.
