Who knows when Tom&Serg’s Dubai takeover will end? Within three years, the pair’s foodie portfolio has expanded from a groundbreaking Al Quoz coffee shop to a five-venue mini-empire taking in three cafés, a barbershop and this, their first licensed premises. Next up is a taco shop.
But are the friends in danger of stretching themselves too thinly with such a rapid expansion programme? On the evidence of Brunswick, no.
It promised a mix of industrial Brooklyn Gym and Melbourne neighbourhood bar, and it’s become a home for the bearded, trucker cap-wearing hipster types who frequent Tom&Serg’s cafés.
That’s no bad thing, it means Al Barsha has somewhere cool to hang out, and being in the mall, it offers somewhere different for shoppers to relax.
There are bottles of craft hops available, a long list of mixed drinks and a good selection of mocktails and juices. Sports are played on about a dozen screens and the music policy gets a thumbs up from us.
One niggle is that due to the stripped-back décor, it feels a little cold, in temperature and atmosphere, when half empty.
The bottom line Good food (as expected) at this cool new hangout in Barsha.
