The first W hotel in the UAE recently opened, and you can now head out for a drink at W Lounge which, although up on the 30th floor, is actually in the hotel lobby – the W brand loves to be different.
And the bar is certainly different. W hotels are famously unique, and this is no exception. The bar is full of curved edges and looks very space-age, although the red lighting makes it look a little bit like a Bond villain’s lair.
The music is very chilled, and not too loud, making it a great place to hang out with friends. You can either sit by the bar, head down the stairs to sink into the armchairs and tall sofas or sit by the windows and enjoy the sunset – there are great views of Sheikh Zayed Road, Jumeirah and what’s left of Safa Park.
While it might be a little difficult to get to the W at the moment (our taxi driver was unsure of where Al Habtoor City was), it’s obvious why they chose the location. Eventually, the Dubai Water Canal will be right on its doorstep, and nothing will spoil that view.
The menu is full of innovative drinks, which, we’re told by the bartender, are exclusive to W Dubai, including some that are made with liquid nitrogen and others that are set on fire once they’ve been presented to you.
The staff are friendly and know their way around the menu, and they take great care with the drinks and how they are presented.
As well as the drinks, you can also grab a bite to eat. Whether you want a salad or you’re craving a roast, you won’t go hungry.
The bottom line This new bar serves drinks that are as unusual as the venue.
