The buzzing atmosphere of this French restaurant hits you as soon as you step out of the lift. The central bar that greets you upon entering is clearly an already-popular spot to meet before dinner, and to linger once people have finished.
When we manage to tear ourselves away from the bar and head to the table, the venue’s second selling point becomes apparent. The view. La Môme is on the 49th floor, looking out over Jumeirah and Sheikh Zayed Road towards Downtown Dubai. It’s simply stunning.
Anyone who previously ate at Italian restaurant Tre will recognise the vista, as this new venture occupies the same space. The transformation into this warm, welcoming spot is as amazing as it is hard to believe.
So far, so good, and we haven’t even touched on the food or service, yet. But both are brilliant.
The menu is unabashedly French, with snails, pigeon and beef bourguignon on offer. We go for all three, as well as the fillet of red snapper we recently featured as a “Dish of the Week”. We make our minds up pretty quickly, but staff are happy to talk us through the menu should we still need any guidance.
In fact, the staff are superb throughout. They mill about the dining room all night, checking on tables but never imposing.
Of the dishes we try, the snails (still a rarity in this town) are a highlight. Doused in garlicky oil and full of bite, we only wish there are more of them. The red snapper’s skin is crisped excellently, but it’s overshadowed by the deep, rich flavours of the slow-cooked beef (which comes with a perfect mash), and the gamey pigeon (pictured above).
Before leaving, our waiter brings a sample of the kitchen’s moreish chocolate mousse, which is worth the visit alone.
An excellent addition.
