If you walk into The Stock Exchange hoping to buy shares, you’ll be disappointed. But the financial theme isn’t just in the name, so it’s worth sticking around to investigate.
The bar is in the middle of the Al Murooj Rotana complex, although you’ll have to follow the signs, go up a winding path and down a few flights of stairs to find it. Once inside, you’ll see that it’s not a huge place. There are still plenty of tables, though, some of them in alcoves dotted around the side of the space. Even though the bar itself is quite small, you don’t have to get up from your seat to order a drink.
Each table is given a tablet showing the prices of all drinks – from soft to hops and mixed beverages – and you order simply by tapping the screen a few times. They can’t give you a printed menu, because the prices can change every couple of seconds, so you need to be fast to get the deal you want.
It’s a simple concept – if a drink is popular, and lots of people are ordering it, the price shoots up accordingly. Less popular drinks are cheaper, so if you’re not after an expensive night, it’s worth keeping an eye on that menu – and the number of screens dotted around the venue showing the changing prices, as well as sports.
The bar can get pretty busy, especially at the weekend, and there are certain nights during the week when it draws in a crowd, too, such as for open mic night on Mondays.
Prices changing due to demand is a good idea, but if the bar is busy, it can take a while for your orders to arrive.
But with such a refreshingly different theme, it’s a great place to head to if you want to mix up your nights out. Well worth investing in, we’d say.
the bottom line Interesting new concept for a night out.
