Known in its native New York for its craft hops as much as its monster freakshakes, Black Tap promises a burger bar that’s thoroughly suitable for grown-ups.
Set on the edge of Jumeirah Al Naseem’s rehabilitatory Turtle Lagoon, the Dubai outpost of this American eatery works hard to measure up to the original. Its bar, which runs the entire length of the venue’s back wall, certainly nails it, as do the giant burgers and rainbow-hued shakes.
On the hops front, Black Tap is aiming for the largest variety in the city – its draughts will soon all be replaced by craft options, while the wide range of bottles in the fridge (many not listed on the menu, so be sure to have a peek behind the bar) are constantly changing.
Bar bites are tasty and well-portioned – burgers, obviously, but the tacos and wings are also winners. Meanwhile, a mishmash soundtrack of old-school hip-hop, R&B and chart hits, matched with the venue’s stripped-back industrial look (because isn’t everything these days?), kit the place out with a funky, friendly feel.
You might initially come for the burgers, but it’ll be the beats and the vibe at the bar keeping you here. The bottom line Not just for big kids.
