Housed within The Atrium at Al Habtoor City, Zoco’s custom has picked up of late. Similar to that of The City Grill (which we reviewed in the previous issue), the opening of aquatheatre extravaganza La Perle has boosted the number of visitors to the area, which has been reflected in the bars and restaurants. This can only be a good thing, especially for an area that was once so quiet.
This Latin American bar and restaurant is set in a long, narrowish space, with a cavernous, cellar-like feel thanks to the arched ceilings and exposed brick work. It’s cool and stripped back, but the shape also means it gets fairly loud when busy, so be prepared to shout to your neighbour. Live music aids the vibe (and noise level) which is all-round Latino fun. Staff are friendly, though there can be a bit of a wait for the Mexican mixed drinks, so take a seat at the bar and enjoy the atmosphere.
The food isn’t the best you’ll find, but there are a range of deals sure to draw in the crowds including Taco Tuesdays (unlimited shells for Dhs125) and a Monday ladies’ night serving up three free drinks.
Fun and functional, Zoco’s not a bad shout if you’re in the area.
The bottom line Head here for a Mexican party vibe.
