Apparently DOME in the Westin Dubai Al Habtoor City is trying to kick-start a midweek party revolution – with this new 44th floor club only open on Sundays and Tuesdays. Not put off with it being a schoolnight, we rock up at midnight, raring to go on a fun night out.
Sadly, the rest of Dubai didn’t get the memo. We’re literally the first people through the door, bar two, and it’s nothing like the picture you see above. But, unpeterbed by a lack of partygoers, we head to the horseshoe-shaped bar that sits in the middle of this stylish, dark and visually impressive club.
Having stared up through the echelons of this staggeringly tall venue (with a centrepiece befitting of the club’s name), we walk away from the bar with our wallet burning, having just dropped Dhs170 on two modest glasses of house grape.
It would seem that this is a place to go if you have such money to spend, with prices being around Dhs6,000 on a “VIP” table. The smaller tables are Dhs4,000. We’re then told there are no drinks menus. You know what they say about clothes shops with no price tags...
We are assured the party picks up, so we stick around – but there’s a lonely feel as the club doesn’t pick up at all, even during peak clubbing hour.
We can see DOME being popular – it is a very cool venue, with some top music pumping out – but with an influx of superclubs, and the popularity of old favourites, it seriously needs to reconsider its price points and opening hours if it’s to rival other nightspots in this city.
The bottom line An expensive, and quiet, night out.
