DIFC nightspot has a newly renovated terrace and a good vibe

  • Caramel
Caramel restaurant and lounge isn’t a new spot, but it’s been given a new lease of life with a revamped terrace, which sets the mood for a relaxed gathering – be it a romantic meal for two or a group soiree.

Enveloped within ivy-lined walls, the terrace provides a glimpse of the Dubai skyline. The muted lighting, wooden furnishings and elegant designs provide just the right ambiance. Parasols shade you from the midday sun, while low lighting and candles add to the romance of the location by night. In the evening, the bar transforms into a lounge serving flavourful mixed drinks with exotic ingredients such as passion fruit. The venue is popular mid-week, especially for unwinding with co-workers, and it attracts financial types from the area.

From the moment you walk in, the hostess and staff are warm and inviting, and depending on whether you’re there to dine or enjoy drinks, you can choose from a seat near the bar on a high-top table or a comfier spot in the main restaurant area or terrace. When it comes to music at Caramel, it’s all about good lounge vibes with a mix of house beats in the evening.

The bar offers an extensive drinks list with premium beverages, bubbly, mixed drinks and fruity concoctions as well as a range of fine grape and hops. The staff are friendly and offer suggestions based on your preferences. On our visit, the restaurant was a little on the quiet side and staff were very attentive, checking in to see if everything was to our liking. The attention to detail was welcome and they managed to strike the balance of being efficient without interrupting – a task that many Dubai bars have yet to accomplish.

Caramel is a great place for socialising and mingling owing to its open-plan layout. And when things get a little crowded, there’s plenty of floor and bar space to move around. It can get quite lively, but it remains on the border of restaurant and bar, and due to its chic clientele, it never gets too loud. Dancing isn’t really on the agenda at Caramel but guests aren’t restricted from doing so if they wish. Caramel
