Trader Vic’s: Trader Vic’s will continue to host its happy hour between 7pm and 8pm with a 50 per cent discount on drinks. On both Monday and Tuesday from 8pm ladies get discounts too. Holders of the Time Out City Card get money off food and drinks.
Crowne Plaza, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 331 1111). 7.30pm-1am daily.

Barasti: While this beach bar favourite is open all day during the Holy Month, it will only be serving soft drinks and food before 7pm. But once the sun goes down you can expect regular service.
Le Méridien Mina Seyahi (04 399 3333). 11am-2am daily.

Rock Bottom Café:
Rock Bottom Café is a long-time institution among the city’s expats. They’ll boast an in-house shawarma station, pool tables and bar offers, though no live music.
Regent Palace Hotel, Bur Dubai (04 396 3888). 7pm-2am daily.

Fibber Magee’s:
The small Irish pub serves up good food from the Emerald Isle and is also running its ‘beat the clock’ happy hour during Ramadan. It starts from 7pm, when selected drinks are dropped to Dhs18 in price. At 8pm they’re bumped up to Dhs19 and from 9pm-10pm they cost Dhs20. The offer is available every day except Saturday and Sunday.
The Palm Hotel (04 332 2400). 7pm-3am daily.

Ratsky’s:
Billiards is back at Ratsky’s this Ramadan. The competition this year will run every day – and for Dhs50 per person you can get free access to the buffet to boot. All in all, a pretty good alternative to the iftar tents around town.
Karama Hotel, opposite Al Manama Hypermarket (050 889 2531). 9pm-2am daily. Dhs50 per person.

Jumeirah Bab Al Shams: As well as the extravagant, authentic Arabic dinner buffet, this Ramadan tent boasts live music from a trio playing the Oud, Kanoun and Tableh. Adults and children can enjoy a complimentary camel or horse ride – available at the heritage village.
Jumeirah Bab Al Shams (04 809 6194). 8.00pm-11.30pm daily. Dhs295 per person.

Long’s bar: It may be running no special offers during Ramadan, but Long’s Bar has been a favourite among western expats during the Holy Month for years now. A fun, rowdy sports pub, it really is the longest bar in the Middle East.
Towers Rotana, Sheikh Zayed Road (04 312 2202). 7.30pm-2am daily.
