It wasn’t until the Belgian Beer Café (often affectionately shortened to BBC) opened its doors that Dubai could finally offer a decent – sophisticated, even – draft selection. The food, too, is something a little different, and follows the Belgian theme of the beers and the decor. There are hot bowls of mussels and dishes of Belgian meatballs to be nibbled while gazing out over sparkling views of the creek from the (normally busy) outdoor deck. The bar offers all the usual trinkets to add authenticity (or, at least, a sense of authenticity given that it’s in Dubai and is peering over a man-made creek). From the shiny trumpet, weathered leather satchels and dozens of other bits of eye-catching clutter hanging from the coat stands and walls, everything is flown in directly from the land of chocolates and bureaucrats. Head down on a Thursday, post-work, to join the loose-tie crowd, or while away a lazy afternoon over fine fare and a paper.
