If you survive the lengthy queues that form outside JamBase each night, you may think that it’s just a packed live music joint. But get in there a little earlier and you’ll find an elegant and attractive restaurant. The staff may be slightly over-eager – to the point of smothering if the place is quiet – but they’re uniformly friendly and efficient, and there should be no problem getting served. Not that you’ll be in a rush to finish your meal, thanks to the welcoming atmosphere created by the moodily subdued lighting, stylish decor and splendid food, particularly the steaks. But if you’re looking for a quiet evening’s eating, then make sure you finish up before the partygoers arrive, because come midnight the dancefloor will be full and you’ll barely have room to move, much less order dessert.
