Behind the mirrored double doors of this classy Souk Al Bahar joint is an opulent and welcoming space, with a large, gently lit bar and sumptuous red circular booths to one side, and higher, white leatherette tables on the other for a more ostentatious evening. Service can be hit and miss, with some staff attentive without being as overbearing (or as cringingly obsequiousas those in many bars. Others, however, need a bit more of a nudge. Cocktails are delicious, with a selection of premium brands that rivals anywhere in Dubai. The food tends towards tarted-up classics – the fish and chips combines fluffy chunky fries and lightly battered, succulent fish in small, artfully displayed portions. More importantly, it tastes good. If we were to offer one criticism, it’s that prices seem high considering the portion sizes.
