Puerto de Elite brings Mediterranean club style to the Middle East
Time Out Dubai staff
Far from the bean-bagged terrace we once knew as Shades, Puerto de Elite at The Address Dubai Marina has gone all out in its bid to bring Mediterranean club style to the Middle East. Admittedly the prevalence of white in the open-air club-lounge-restaurant is a little overwhelming at first, but they’ve certainly headed in the right direction since opening at the beginning of December.
Those who frequent the Habtoor Grand’s Horizon Lounge will likely feel right at home here. Whether you plump for a day bed, one of the large sofa booths or a table in the restaurant, you’ll get a great view of the marina across the infinity pool – take it from us, it takes a lot of self-restraint not to dive into it fully clothed on warmer evenings.
Wherever you find yourself seated, it won’t be far away from a speaker – great news for the weekend crowd, when things liven up and the place begins to feel more like a poolside club, but not such a thrill for a mid-week drink. Fortunately, the staff are more than happy to turn the speakers down around you, et voilà, crisis averted.
Filled with potential, Puerto would do well to invest in a chilled Ibiza CD for a more weekday-friendly atmosphere and kick-start the flow of punters with some well-publicised drinks promotions. While beverages aren’t particularly cheap, the prices (around Dhs40 for a glass of grape) are to be expected given the location, and a quick glance down the snacks menu reveals Mediterranean favourites are readily available. Local residents should give this place a chance, because with all the effort they’ve put in, it would be great to see this become one of the Marina’s go-to spots.
