Blue Bar

Modern jazz bar with live music and a chilled out crowd Reviews

From Time Out Dubai City Guide 2007

The Blue Bar has carved itself a bit of a live music niche thanks to its regular jazz nights on Thursday evenings. Located on the ground floor of the businesslike Novotel, the Blue Bar combines fashionable decor, chilled out vibes and an unusually good selection of draught Belgian beers to potent effect. On regular nights, a bevy of TV screens churn out the usual MOR pap and the place resembles the hotel bar it is, but it’s still a nice enough place to enjoy a quality lager or two.

FYI - I haven't been to too many bars in Dubai. With that being said this is an unpretentious bar (which was a definite plus) with great live music. It's all cover music, but really well done. The crowd is fairly small and intimate and seemingly full of regulars. We actually had a meal here, which was also decent. The smoked salmon appetizer came with what seemed like a pound of salmon. The fish and chips were just okay. The service was more than decent, especially for a bar. Mostly, people come here for the live music and the band does not disappoint - they're really quite talented. A few people danced (awfully), but it was a fun, casual atmosphere, although loud - would not come here to try and have a deep conversation. The band played 3 encore songs to a very enthusiastic audience...some of which where shouting, "Nachos with Cheese." I guess they were hungry.
