Alegra
A great mix of classic ingredients, much like the drinks it sells 5 Reviews
Much like the mixed drinks it does so well, Alegra takes classic familiar ingredients and mixes them together with precision and flair. But firstly, a word on ‘the glass’: like all good mixed drinks Alegra is served in a small, elegant vestibule on the site of the Al Murooj Rotana’s former C-Bar. Now on to ‘the drink’ itself – the mixer includes the illuminated gold table-blocks found in Calabar; a healthy measure of Movida’s swirling animated screens give the drink body; and there’s a dash of Cavalli’s chandeliers hanging over the bar, giving the dose an extra kick. All the familiar elements are in place, but they’ve been mixed together with an expert touch.
So new is this bar when we visited that menus were yet to be printed, and it was left to our enthusiastic, heavily-tattooed mixologist to run down some options. He talked us into the house drink – a fluorescent fruit concoction with a bursting shot of bubbly on the side – without revealing its Dhs150 price tag. But prohibitive prices aside, this makes a welcome alternative to some of the more obvious high-end lounge bars in town.
