There was only one runner in this category. It wasn’t until Belgian Beer Café (quickly and affectionately shortened to BBC) opened its doors in April that Dubai could at last offer a sophisticated draft selection – naturally all from Belgium. It was also the first time we could enjoy fine mussels and Belgian sausage while gazing out over sparkling views of the Creek, from its outdoor deck. And we commend the authentic sense of the bar’s birth place that slaps you across the face as soon as you walk in.

From the shiny trumpet, weathered leather satchels and hundreds of other eye-catching clutter hanging from the coat stands and walls, every- thing is flown in directly from the land of chocolates itself. Head down on a Thursday, post-work, to join the busy loosened-tie crowd, or while away a lazy afternoon there, over fine fare and a paper. Magnifique!
