The promise Like any good massage, the goal is to leave feeling relaxed and rejuvenated. Described as ‘Asia meets Arabia’, the 60-minute Arabesque massage uses scented Arabian oils with traditional Balinese massage techniques. Depending on which of the Le Sens de Marrakech sensual oils you choose – jasmine, verbena, orange blossom, amber and musk, rose and sandalwood, patchouli, sweet mandarin or sahraoui for men – the treatment aims to ease and alleviate various symptoms such as the effects of stress and ageing. It’s also said to increase the skin’s moisture by hydrating, nourishing, soothing and detoxifying it.
Step by step We arrive for our treatment feeling pretty exhausted and aching from head to toe after a rather unpleasant bout of the flu. So to say that we are in desperate need of a little TLC is an understatement. As soon as we enter the warm, dimly lit treatment room – to the sounds of soothing and tranquil music – we immediately feel relaxed. Lying on the spa bed we feel ourselves slowly drifting into a light sleep as the Balinese therapist rubs silky verbena oil into our skin. Throughout the hour-long massage, she uses various techniques including rubbing and kneading to relieve stubborn knots. Somehow she manages to get rid of aches and pains we didn’t even know we had, using both a warm herbal compress and bamboo sticks. Once our massage has ended, we are invited to recline in a relaxation area with a hot neck wrap, where we fall into another mild (and, it turns out, alarmingly lengthy) slumber on an oversized chaise longue.
The result Considering we felt like we had been hit by a bus when we arrived, we leave feeling completely relaxed and pain-free.
Pros • The massage includes access to the thermal and hydrotherapy facilities – steam chamber, sauna, jet whirlpool and more.
Cons • We quite enjoy taking a dip after a treatment, but the spa doesn’t have a swimming pool, so we had to settle for a soak in the Jacuzzi.
