If time flies when you’re having fun, we’re not sure what that means for the Iridium Spa at the newly opened St. Regis Dubai. The idea is that you’re frozen in the moment, so from the second you step foot into the spa, offload your belongings and slip into a robe and flip-flops, any whisper of “how long do we have?” will result in a finger slapping (not really).
Coincidentally, we’d booked our session for 12 o’clock, the time all clocks inside the spa are permanently set to, so even after unwinding in the sauna, steam room and Jacuzzi, technically the fun was only just getting started.
The 12 o’clock idea stems from 19th century New York socialite Caroline Astor of Waldorf Astoria fame’s popular midnight dinner parties, which took place in her very own Iridium Room.
Guests are given a tea menu and cosy blankets, plus earphones to drown out any chatter in the room. The area only caters to four people at a time, so it has a very intimate feel.
We opt for a bespoke treatment, where the therapist caters to preferences. In need of a Swedish deep tissue massage but always wanted to try out hot stones? You can have both if you go bespoke. Our masseuse helps us seek out the oil our body craves by conducting a three-part sniff test, while our feet are bathed.
Whether you’re in need of something relaxing or energising, your nose will lead the way. Once you get used to the idea of no clock-watching, it’s easy to get almost too comfortable in the boutique-style spa, which has a total of six treatment rooms and two hammams across the separate male and female areas.
With options including Caribbean Rainstorm and Spring Mist in the shower room, complete with wildlife sounds and bursts of thunder and lightning, if time existed, you could very easily spend far too much of it here. Dhs810 (90-minute Iridium bespoke massage).Iridium Spa
