Holly Sands treats her feet to The Cure’s new diva foot ritual
Though at first The Cure’s location inside one of Dubai Media City’s office buildings might seem a little obscure, it’s probably a pretty savvy investment by the management. And right on cue, the salon is busy with what looks suspiciously like hardworking media folk, checking into the tiny ladies-only grooming spot for a slice of post-work pampering.
As well as the scrubbing and smoothing you might expect, this foot treatment claims to relieve stress and tension, allowing your whole body – not just your weary tootsies – to relax. On top of that, the treatment will apparently release energy blockages with the help of hot stones and a massage that applies pressure along the meridians of the feet.
Step by step
After being ushered to my perch (which it turns out is a more literal description of my seat than I would have preferred) I’m provided with a heated compress to place around my shoulders, and my feet are first placed in a sink filled with warm water and oils. I’m offered hot stones to hold in my hands to improve my energy flow. Each foot is filed – a real test of endurance if you’re ticklish – then scrubbed with a purple mixture and rinsed, before hot stones are applied between my toes. Before they’ve had time to cool completely, my therapist removes them to begin a relaxing massage of my feet and lower legs, and shortly applies a tingly tea tree and mint masque, which she covers in a plastic wrap. While the masque is left on, I’m given a hand and arm massage for a final unwind.
• It’s surprisingly relaxing for a single foot treatment. • The staff are welcoming and knowledgable.
• The treatment chairs could do with being a bit more comfortable.
My feet have never felt smoother and the effects of the filing seem to last much longer than usual. My heels are much softer and my blisters look and feel much less severe. I’ll definitely be back.
