Hair-straightening in Dubai
Tired of frizzy hair and uncontrollable locks but don't want to shave your head? Us too, so we've put L’Oréal's hair straightening treatment to the test 1 Comments
When it comes to hair, I’m pretty sure many women living in Dubai will understand me when I say, ‘Step out a beauty, come back a beast.’ The sticky climate means even the most well-behaved of locks can rebel like a spotty teenager.
So I decided to look into permanent hair straightening. I went along to Jen’s Hair Salon and was welcomed in to have a consultation with Jen herself to see if my hair passed the test… it failed miserably. The ends of my hair were too weak to handle the treatment. But there was hope: Biolustre, aka ‘hair glue’, would make my hair 300 times stronger, apparently. I could see why it was nicknamed glue: I felt like I’d done a handstand into a big tub of Uhu. But it was worth it as it meant I could have the straightening treatment. And it worked a miracle. My hair is now straight… Completely straight. No styling – or even blow drying – needed. An absolute (love) life-saver.
As for the salon – it’s a really friendly, relaxed environment, with knowledgeable and trustworthy stylists, great coffee and stacks of mags. It’s not five-star luxury, but it’s a stylish and comfortable place, and the personal service makes you feel like a princess. I can also vouch for the cut and blow dry (from Dhs120); the wash came with a heavenly head massage and my hair was bouncier than Tom Cruise on Oprah’s sofa when I strutted out the salon on my first visit.
So now I’ve traded in my Beauty And The Beast barnet for tresses as gorgeous as Rapunzel’s – I’ll be hanging my hair down from my Bur Dubai balcony and waiting for my prince to climb up… although with my shoulder-length hair, he may just have to take the stairs.
L’Oréal straightening treatment Dhs1,750-3,300. Biolustre treatment Dhs550-750, Jen’s Hair Salon (04 331 1425/800 5367), Sheikh Zayed Road. Free consultations are available and there is a 20 per cent discount for Time Out readers on presentation of this article.
