The promise This deep-tissue massage at the Fairmont Dubai’s ninth-floor spa is designed to relieve knots and muscular aches caused by playing sport, or just ease the body of the stresses of a long day.
Step by step I’m led through the pleasant spa’s relaxation room and Jacuzzi area as my therapist asks me where on my body I suffer from tension: I tell him I often feel muscle stiffness in my back and legs. Once I’m on the massage table, he rubs ginger and black pepper essential oils into my skin and tells me the oils and the lavender aroma in the room will help to relax my muscles. He then massages the oils into my legs and back, before upping the pressure without causing the discomfort often associated with this type of massage. I tell him I worked out an hour before the start of my massage, so he begins to work the lactic acid build-up out of my legs, arms and chest. With the massage over, I’m left to enjoy some ‘aching muscles tea’ in the relaxation room.
The results My body feels tired and relaxed after the massage, which lasts until I go to bed (where I drift off quickly). My muscles are often sore the morning after a workout, but the next morning I feel flexible and pain-free from the moment I wake.
