With summer on the horizon, Halina Myers tries the new Vitamin D test to see if she has a deficiency
A quick blood test will determine whether or not I’m Vitamin D deficient, a lack of this vitamin, I’m told, is caused predominantly by minimal sun exposure causing hair loss and fatigue.
Step by step After my consultation I’m led to the lab where the blood test hot seat awaits me. The prick of the needle was as uncomfortable as any other blood test, but the soothing decor distracts me from any discomfort.
The Result Despite the dull ache in my arm, the test was quick and relatively painless. My results came back the same day and they show that I’m above the normal level of 30ng/ml. I’m told to eat eggs, fish and meat and to get more sun (without burning) to maintain my healthy Vitamin D levels.
Pros • Al Das has to be the most relaxing medical clinic I’ve ever been too – perfect for needle fearing patients like me. • The staff were friendly, chatty and reassuring. • The test is quick and results can be accessed the same day from knowledgeable staff.
Cons • Despite the fact that a blood test is never pleasant, there are no cons to speak of.
